Jordan King Competitive Figure Skater

Few sports place a heavier physical, psychological, or financial burden on the individual athlete than competitive figure skating. The sport requires not only physical toughness and flawless form, but it also requires grace and beauty. What started out as a fun activity gradually becomes a demanding discipline with few rewards and considerable pain.

The serious figure skater must rise before dawn in order to be at the ice skating arena and ready to skate at 5:30 or 6 oclock in the morning. The skater must develop the strength and stamina while mastering the form necessary to eventually perform three or more complete revolutions in the air before landing on the edge of a single 1/16" thick blade.

One of the rising young stars in this highly competitive sport is twelve year old Jordan King from Salt Lake City, Utah who skates at the Salt Lake Sports Complex near the University of Utah.
